Under hypnosis, Betty described the aliens as hairless with no earlobes or cartilage, only ear holes. She compared their noses to that of actor, Jimmy Durante. Contrary to the then-popular stereotype, her aliens were not little green men, but were aluminum gray in color with big chests and spindly legs. Betty described undergoing medical procedures. During her exam, a four- to six-inch needle was inserted into her navel causing excruciating pain. She was informed that this was a pregnancy test. In the 1960s, many scoffed at this, but it is now reminiscent of laparoscopies or amniocentesis, a routine medical procedure to determine the genetic markers of a fetus. Amniocentesis was in the experimental stage in 1961 and not generally known in 1964.

The aliens apparently paid little attention to the difference in the Hills' skin color—Barney was black; Betty was white—but were fascinated by the discrepancy in their teeth. Barney's were removable and Betty's were not. Barney wore a full set of dentures following injuries incurred during his military service.

Under hypnosis, Betty reproduced a star map she said had been shown to her by her captors. Betty was no astronomer, and yet she drew an accurate map, including the location of two stars, Zeta I and Zeta II Reticulli, allegedly the home base of her aliens. The existence of these two stars was not confirmed by astronomers until 1969. Furthermore, these two fifth-magnitude stars are not visible north of Mexico City.

Betty had found a book featuring strange hieroglyphs on the aircraft that she wanted to keep as a souvenir and as proof of her experience. The alien she identified as the leader agreed, but was later overruled by the crew, who did not wish their victims to be able to recall their experiences. The book was taken from her, and Betty was advised by the "leader" that the Hills' memories would be erased.

Betty insisted that she would remember, and the leader laughed at her, saying that, even if she did, Barney wouldn't. And in the event that he did, their memories would not correspond. They would confuse each other, and no one else would ever believe them. Barney revealed under hypnosis that he had been warned never to discuss his experiences. The aliens would allegedly know and would return to punish the Hills.

Dr. Simon, the hypnotist, very adamantly did not believe in alien abductions. It is unlikely that he hypnotically implanted these memories, as some have suggested. If anything, he attempted to dissuade the Hills of the possibility of alien abduction. Simon was willing to acknowledge the possibility of UFO sightings, but abductions were too much for him.

To the Hills' dismay, a newspaper reporter contacted them, seeking an interview and advising them that a newspaper story about their UFO experience was planned. Barney immediately contacted two lawyers in an attempt to force the newspaper publisher, editor, and reporter to withdraw the story. The lawyers informed him, however, that as long as medical confidentiality was not violated and the story was treated as news, nothing could be done to prevent publication.
